Tampa man arrested for DUI in wrong-way, three-vehicle crash

TAMPA — A 33-year-old man caused a three-vehicle traffic crash early Sunday morning when he drove on the wrong side of Hillsborough Avenue while under the influence of alcohol, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Jonathan Henry Garner, 33, of Tampa was traveling west in the eastbound lane of Hillsborough Avenue, west of Orient Road, at about 3:30 a.m. when he hit an oncoming Nissan Murano and then a Chevrolet Silverado, head-on.

Garner showed signs of impairment, according to the FHP report, and was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and ticketed for traveling the wrong direction. He was transported to the Orient Road Jail, where he refused a breath test, according to the report.

Garner, who was driving a Jeep Liberty, walked away with minor injuries and was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, Lennox Austin, 55, was uninjured, as was his passenger, 53-year-old Charlene Glover. Both are from Brandon.

Lascelle Saunders, 52, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, also was uninjured. His passenger, Sandra Valles, 46, was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital for minor injuries. Both are from Safety Harbor.
