TAMPA — A Tampa man was arrested on a manslaughter charge Thursday in the death of Yasmine L. Tyson on Monday night.
Tampa police detained Christopher Lee Carithers, 37, as he left a vehicle Thursday afternoon in front of a home in the 1500 block of 24th Avenue. Carithers was also booked on a second charge — felon in possession of a firearm — and his bail was set at $37,500.
Tips from the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force led police to name Carithers a suspect in 37-year-old Tyson's shooting death at a motel near Busch Gardens.
Officers responding to a 911 call about a shooting arrived at the Travelers Inn, 2523 E Busch Blvd., about 8:15 p.m. There, inside room 218, they discovered Tyson alone, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Tyson, of Emma Street in Tampa, was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. Investigators said they do not believe the shooting was random.
Between March 1999 and April 2014, Carithers has served five prison terms for offenses including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, grand theft, grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine, state records show.
