Tampa man faces arson charge for house fire

TAMPA — A 51-year-old man accused of starting a fire at a house in February was arrested Wednesday, police said.

Roger J. Robbins of Tampa faces a charge of first-degree arson of a dwelling.

Firefighters responded to 1603 Bird St., on Feb. 5. Half of the home was engulfed in flames. The home was vacant and no injuries were reported, but the fire caused $6,500 in damage. Investigators ruled that the fire was intentional.

Within the next few months, investigators identified Robbins as a suspect after witnesses identified him as the man who started the fire.

He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where he remained Thursday afternoon in lieu of $250,000 bail.
