Tampa man shot in head while sitting inside car, police say

TAMPA — An 18-year-old man remained in critical condition after he was shot in the head while sitting in the front seat of a car late Monday, police said.

Lonnie Bernard Henderson, 18, had been sitting in the passenger seat of a car stopped at N 18th Street and E 25th Avenue about 10:15 p.m. when he began to talk to someone standing outside the vehicle, officials said.

As he was talking, police said, gunfire cut through the night. A bullet struck Henderson in his head.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, drove Henderson to a residence at 513 E Floribraska Avenue and called 911. Tampa Fire Rescue drove the victim to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment.

The teen remained in critical condition early Tuesday.

No suspects have been identified. An investigation is underway.
