TAMPA — Police arrested Sunday a 22-year-old man who detectives said shot and killed a Tampa man after an argument.
Tampa police said that Dejonta Felder was arrested in Polk County in connection with the July 3 murder of Julius Carter, 32.
That afternoon, the two men got in an argument on the street. Felder shot Carter several times in the upper body, according to police.
Carter stumbled into a backyard in the 3400 of N Phillips Street, east of 50th Street near Interstate 4, and died, police said.
Investigators issued a warrant for Felder's arrest earlier this month. He faces charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
State criminal records show Felder has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for aggravated battery and burglary. He was also sentenced to prison time in 2014 for burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing from law enforcement, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.
Carter had three children, said Taja Moye, who identified herself to the Tampa Bay Times as the mother of two of the children. State department of corrections records show he was on probation through 2019 after he went to prison for charges including fleeing from law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
