TAMPA — A man authorities say shot and killed another man turned himself in Thursday and faces a murder charge.

Derrick Bernard Grady Jr., 24, was shot about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at 9410 N 13th St. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died.

Tampa police said Jacob N. Nelson, 25, of Tampa was carrying a gun and agitated when Grady arrived at the address Wednesday for a confrontation. Witnesses said he shot Grady once in the chest as he walked into an apartment.

Nelson turned himself in Thursday and was charged with second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Records show both Nelson and Grady had been arrested several times in Hillsborough County and both had served time in the Brevard Correctional Institution near Cocoa.
