Tampa police looking for man who stole diamond ring

TAMPA — Police were searching for a man captured on surveillance video after he stole a diamond ring Monday from an International Plaza jewelry store.

The man walked into Helzberg Diamonds in the mall, 2223 N West Shore Blvd., about 12:15 p.m., police said, and told a clerk he was looking for a diamond engagement ring costing about $8,000. The clerk showed him two rings, and the man quickly grabbed one off the display case and ran out of the mall.

Surveillance video shows the man got into the passenger side of a Volkswagen Jetta waiting in the parking lot, which sped off.

Anyone with information about the robbery was urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 873-TIPS (8477). Callers will remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.
