TAMPA — Video footage from the office of a local pharmacy may be key to figuring out who was responsible for a Wednesday armed robbery at the Tampa business, police say.
The crime happened just after 2 p.m. at the Palm Plaza Pharmacy at 1155 S Dale Mabry Highway, police said. A man armed with a small revolver walked inside, jumped over a counter and held a clerk at gunpoint.
The man held the clerk by the back of his neck, pointing the gun close to his head, as he forced him into a back office. A video surveillance system recorded the robber herding the clerk toward a safe, forcing him to open it, then pushing him to the floor before removing medications. The robber also stole the clerk's wallet and cell phone, along with cash from the front register, police said.
The man is described as about 6 feet with a stocky to muscular build. He wore a dark blue-collared shirt and matching ball cap, blue jeans and gloves. His face was concealed with a stocking, police said.
After the robbery, the man fled the pharmacy in a gold sport utility vehicle, police said.
Anyone with information regarding his identity is asked to call Tampa police at (813) 231-6130.
