TAMPA — A 34-year-old woman accused of keeping a dog and six puppies in dire conditions was arrested Monday afternoon, Hillsborough County Animal Services said.
Regena Lewis of Tampa was keeping the dogs in a small kennel with no food or water, an arrest affidavit shows. The dogs were standing in their own feces and urine, causing the oldest to develop burns on her paws.
One of the puppies had a collar embedded in its neck, causing "unnecessary pain and suffering," the affidavit shows.
Lewis faces two counts of animal cruelty and seven counts of improper confinement.
She was booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where she remained Tuesday morning in lieu of $2,500 bail.
