TARPON SPRINGS — Police were searching for an unidentified man who tried to rob a couple late Saturday and shot one of his intended victims.
A 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were walking together about 9:30 p.m. in the area of 16 S Walton Ave. when a man came out of a wooded area and brandished a gun, police said. The 19-year-old tried to grab the man's gun and was shot in his left side.
The armed man fled. The 19-year-old was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center.
Police were continuing to look for the suspect in the shooting Saturday night. He is described as in his early 30s, about 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5, between 130 and 150 pounds, and wearing a gray or blue hoodie.
