Taxi rider pays dearly for unpaid fare, Pasco deputies say

PORT RICHEY — A taxi driver was arrested Saturday after Pasco sheriff's deputies say he beat a customer with a metal pipe for refusing to pay a $5 cab fare.

Edward Clayton King, 55, picked up a man around 2 a.m. Saturday and drove him home, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. After the rider refused to pay the fare, King took a metal pipe from his car and hit him in the face, the report said. The man tried to run away, and King hit him twice more on the leg, authorities said.

King was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He remained in the Pasco County jail Monday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bail.
