Temple Terrace police shoot and wound pit bull

TEMPLE TERRACE — An officer shot and wounded a pit bull after it attacked a police dog Monday, authorities said.

About 11:30 a.m., police were serving an arrest warrant on 20-year-old Aaron Bell, accused of selling cocaine.

As officers were placing him under arrest, a pit bull ran from the back yard and lunged at the police dog, biting its lower jaw.

The pit bull would not release the police dog, so its handler fired two shots at the pit bull, hitting it on one of its front legs and on the left side of its body, the agency said.

Both dogs were treated and are expected to recover.
