Third teen charged in attack on pregnant 17-year-old

NEW PORT RICHEY

A third teenager has been arrested in the Jan. 1 beating of a pregnant minor whose boyfriend reportedly organized the hit with hopes the girl would miscarry.

Marshall Lee Chapman, an 18-year-old student at Hillsborough Community College, is accused of driving Andres Marrero, 19, to and from the scene of the crime — an apartment complex in New Port Richey — and giving him a BB gun to use in the attack. Authorities say Marrero kidnapped the 17-year-old girl, forced her into the woods and kicked her in the stomach repeatedly. Marrero, a student at the University of Tampa, was arrested Jan. 27 and charged with armed kidnapping and aggravated battery on a pregnant female.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated at a hospital. She and the baby appear to be okay, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

The girl's boyfriend — Devin Nickels, an 18-year-old freshman at Florida State University — was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with solicitation to commit aggravated battery. He's being held in the Leon County jail, awaiting transfer to Pasco.

Chapman, Marrero and Nickels all graduated together from Sunlake High School last June. This is the first arrest for all three in Florida, records state.

Chapman told investigators Nickels gave him the gun with instructions on what to do, a report states. Chapman is charged with armed kidnapping and aggravated battery on a pregnant female. He's being held at the Pasco jail in lieu of $160,000 bail.
