Threat spurs lockdown at Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport

GULFPORT — Boca Ciega High School was put under lockdown Thursday morning after a school resource officer learned about a plot to attack a student, police said.

The high school at 924 58th St. S was put under lockdown from just after 8 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m.

Police said a resource officer at Boca Ciega learned that two juveniles were on their way to the school to continue an off-campus altercation. The resource officer was told that a student and his brother were either on campus, or on their way, and were possibly armed with weapons.

The school and surrounding area was searched for weapons and for anyone who didn't go to the school. No weapons or trespassers were found, police said.

Police removed the student the two juveniles were after, officers said.

Nearby Hamilton Disston School also went under lockout around the same time.
