A Tampa Bay Times staff writer was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence on Saturday night in Tallahassee.

Michael Auslen, 22, was driving west on Tennessee Street near Columbia Drive about 11:15 p.m. when an officer saw him speeding and swerving, according to an arrest affidavit.

After pulling Auslen over, the officer said he noticed his bloodshot eyes and alcohol on his breath, the affidavit said. He was also unsteady on his feet.

Auslen admitted to coming from a local bar but said he did not remember which one, the affidavit said. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.175, according to the affidavit. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.

Auslen was taken to the Leon County jail and later released on $500 bail. He declined to comment. Auslen covers state politics in Tallahassee for the Times.
