Toddler found wandering New Port Richey street

NEW PORT RICHEY — A 2-year-old boy was found running in the street and his caretaker didn't know the boy had gone outside unsupervised, authorities said.

Jaimee Palmer, 21, said she was asleep inside her house at 5011 Avery Road at 9 a.m. Monday while the child was wandering the street for about 30 to 45 minutes, a New Port Richey police report states.

Palmer was already being investigated by child protective services "involving the same child for allegations of abuse," the report states. Palmer told officers "that she needs help," the document says. The relationship between Palmer and the child was not disclosed by police.

Palmer was arrested and charged with child neglect. She remained Tuesday in the Pasco jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
