TAMPA — University of Tampa security officers caught a man and a teen they say pistol-whipped and robbed a student early Saturday, according to Tampa police.
At 5 a.m., Jared Griffin, 19, was approached by two men near 310 N Boulevard.
Police say Robert Nolan Hall Jr., 21, of 1115 W Main St. hit Griffin in the face with a gun several times, and he and a teenager took Griffin's wallet, keys and lighter.
The UT student wasn't seriously injured, police say.
Griffin ran to get security officers after the robbery. The officers chased the pair into the Oakhurst Square Apartments at 1120 N Boulevard.
After Hall was caught, an Oakhurst security guard found the gun, Tampa police said.
Police said Christopher Castro, 15, of 8737 N 30th St. was caught with Griffin's keys in his pocket.
Hall is charged with robbery with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail at the Hillsborough County Jail.
Castro was charged with armed robbery and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
