PLANT CITY — Deputies are investigating two homicides in the Plant City area after the bodies of two men were found about 10 miles apart within 10 minutes Monday. The deaths do not appear to be related, deputies said.

A 19-year-old man was found dead inside a home at 621 N Forbes Road about 4:40 p.m. Monday, deputies said. The body was later identified as that of Caleb Bruce Rife.

Deputies would say only that Rife suffered trauma to his upper body.

Rife's mother, Linda, declined comment. Another family member, Paul Rife, said Caleb was "just one of those boys that got along with a lot of different people" and liked to hunt and fish.

About 10 minutes earlier, deputies were called to woods near Thonotosassa where a passer-by found a body.

Someone walking along Taylor Road between Skewlee and Pruett roads discovered Anderson Leroy Evelyn, 33, also described by deputies as a victim of trauma to his upper body, deputies said.

Deputies were called to the scene at 4:30 p.m. and Evelyn was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, the release said.

A cause of death has not been released in either case.
