Two men charged in armed Tampa carjacking

PLANT CITY—Tampa police charged two men they say stole a car from a Tampa gas station at gunpoint Wednesday before fleeing north and leading police on a foot chase.

Police said Justin D. Blackmon, 34, and Timothy A. Connell, 30, were spotted by a Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy who recognized the brown Honda Accord police said the men stole from a Tampa gas station early Wednesday.

When the men noticed the deputy looking at them, police said, they rammed the car into a ditch and leapt out. They ran into the woods near the Pasco County line on Bruton Road west of County Road 39.

Police and deputies cordoned off the wooded area and eventually flushed the men out of the woods with search dogs Wednesday afternoon.

Both men were charged with committing an armed carjacking. Connell remained in the Hillsborough County jail Thursday without bail. Blackmon's bail was set at $1 million.
