Two men shot during Hillsborough robbery

Two men were shot as they fled a robbery in the Plantation subdivision off Gunn Highway Saturday night, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The men drove to a friend's house in the subdivision and at 10:45 p.m. stopped at 10346 Rosemount Drive, where a man in dreadlocks entered their car's rear passenger seat, deputies said Sunday.

A dark-colored SUV or truck then drove up and blocked the front of the car. Four men surrounded the car and took the victims' wallets, cellphones and a necklace at gunpoint, the Sheriff's Office said.

One of the victims tried to get away by putting his car in reverse, striking a telephone pole and two parked vehicles, deputies said. One of the robbers fired several shots, hitting both the driver and his passenger. The victims fled to a gas station on Gunn Highway.

Both men, who weren't identified, were hospitalized with wounds that were not life-threatening, deputies said.
