Two men were shot Wednesday afternoon in an attempted robbery in St. Petersburg. Both men suffered injuries that were not life threatening. Police did not release their names.
The shooting occurred after a man drove into an alley near 37th Street and Third Avenue S about 3:30 p.m. and asked for directions.
A man walked nearby to help, and two more men followed behind with handguns. The men with guns tried to rob the man in the car, police said, but he resisted and was shot in the arm.
The man who offered to help with directions was shot in the leg. Police were unclear if he knew the two men with the guns. It was also unclear if he was hit with a separate bullet or if the same bullet had just ricocheted.
The two armed men ran from the scene. The man in the car drove to a Choice Store at 3401 Fifth Ave. S.
Police were searching for the two armed men. Detailed descriptions of the armed men were not provided.
