TAMPA — Two more men have been charged in connection with the killing of a 52-year-old Tampa man who was beaten to death in March, police said Monday.
Tyrell and Donnell Mingo were arrested Friday and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Carlton "Cooda" Reed, Tampa police said. Detectives obtained a warrant in June for the Mingos and Jason Newson, who was arrested Wednesday on an identical charge.
Officers were sent to investigate an aggravated battery call the night of March 23 in the 2900 block of E 28th Avenue. When they arrived, they found Reed lying injured in the street. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died. A few days later, police issued a public plea for information. Several people were believed to have been in a fight with Reed before he died, and detectives suspected that there were witnesses.
After getting the warrant on June 10, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force received anonymous tips about the suspects' locations. The task force and Tampa Police's Fugitive Apprehension Unit did surveillance that led to the arrest of the three suspects.
Tyrell Mingo, 21, of 2214 E 20th Ave. and Donnell Mingo, 26, of 3817 Fairview Cove Lane, were being held without bail in the Hillsborough County jail.
