ST. PETERSBURG — Two teenagers have been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl on the campus of Dixie Hollins High School.

The girl reported the crime to Pinellas County deputies on Monday, telling them she had been attacked in a room at the school at 4940 62nd St. N in St. Petersburg, according to a sheriff's spokeswoman.

Detectives identified as their suspects Kelvin King, 17, of 2621 28th St. N, St. Petersburg, and Dontae Cook, 15, 4601 40th St. N, St. Petersburg. Both are students at Dixie Hollins, and records show Cook has prior arrests for trespassing and stealing cars. The disposition of those cases was not apparent from court records.

"She didn't know either of them" before the assault, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cristen Rensel.

Rensel would not say whether the victim attends Dixie Hollins or identify which room of the school was the location of the attack. A call to a Pinellas County School District spokeswoman late Wednesday was not returned.

Rensel said the victim said the attack had occurred during the daytime, but the spokeswoman did not know if it was before, during or after regular school hours.

King and Cook were each charged with one count of sexual battery and taken to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center. Detectives are continuing to investigate, according to the Sheriff's Office.
