TAMPA -- Deputies have arrested and charged a Valrico man they say tried to rob a Washington Mutual Bank Wednesday afternoon but left empty-handed.
The suspect walked into the bank at 2615 State Road 60 and handed the teller a note demanding money, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff's office.
The teller wouldn't give him money, or a wallet after the robber asked for that, so the suspect left the bank, got on a silver mountain bike and rode away.
After canvassing the area, deputies came up with the name of Robert Nelson Thomas, 38, of 317 St. Cloud Ave. in Valrico. ellers also identified him from a photograph.
Thomas was arrested at home at 7 p.m. Wednesday and charged with attempted bank robbery and attempted strong armed robbery.
He is being held at the Falkenburg Road jail on $7,500 bail.
