Man charged with robbery of Spring Hill cash-for-gold business

SPRING HILL — Hernando County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man who they say admitted to robbing a cash-for-gold business in Spring Hill last month.

Philip Michael Perry, 34, told deputies he was the man armed with a gun who walked into K&R Gold Recyclers on Mariner Boulevard on Aug. 28, the Sheriff's Office said. Perry, who lives northwest of Brooksville, fled with cash and the wallet and cell phone of a woman in the store, deputies said.

Perry made the admission after deputies pulled over the silver Nissan Altima he was driving in Spring Hill about 10:20 p.m. Friday. Investigators found a loaded 9-mm handgun on the floorboard behind the driver's seat, two methadone pills and a makeshift bandana, the Sheriff's Office said.

Perry was charged with armed robbery, openly carrying a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He remained Monday in the Hernando County Detention Center in lieu of $111,000 bail.
