While Largo firefighters treat patient, gunshots ring out nearby

LARGO — Firefighters and paramedics had to take cover Thursday night when gunshots rang out while they were responding to a medical call, according to Largo police.

Someone was shot near the area where Largo Fire Rescue was treating a patient, police said.

Whoever opened fire was still at large late Thursday night. Largo police did not release any other details about their search for the shooter.

Firefighters responded to a call reporting respiratory distress at the Oakcreek Apartments at 2070 62nd St N. at 8:48 p.m.

They were treating someone when gunshots rang out, police said. Firefighters and paramedics took cover.

Police said the shooting was not connected to the medical call. The shooting took place between two people, and one of them suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Largo police did not release any other details about the incident.
