Woman, 70, sexually assaulted in Tampa church

Woman, 70, sexually assaulted in church

Detectives were searching on Friday for a man they believe sexually assaulted a 70-year-old woman in a church.

The woman was entering the Living Word Fellowship at 8215 N 13th St. just before noon on Thursday to get a key for a rental home nearby.

As she walked out toward the home, a man approached her and asked if he could see the church's sanctuary.

They walked back together and the woman opened the door to the church. Once inside, the man sexually assaulted her, Tampa police said.

He ran away from the church.

Police described the man as a black male between the ages of 28 and 30, who weighed between 160-175 pounds, and had short hair. He was wearing a green or gray T-shirt and jeans during the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call Tampa police at (813) 232-6800 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 873-8477.
