DADE CITY — Pasco County deputies arrested a woman on charges of cruelty to animals after they say she left two dogs locked in a hot car for at least an hour while she went to charge her phone.
On Thursday afternoon, deputies arrived at a residence on Willingham Drive in Dade City to find two dogs locked inside a car. The car was completely sealed, aside from 4 inches of space in the trunk that the dogs couldn't reach, deputies said. Deputies waited for the owner in 96-degree weather. Shirley Robinson, 63, arrived about an hour later, saying she had left to charge her phone.
A report noted that before Robinson arrived, the dogs had been slobbering and panting inside the car. The ordeal caused them "unnecessary stress and pain," the report stated.
Robinson was being held Friday in lieu of $150 bail at the Land O'Lakes Detention Center.
