Woman robbed, pistol whipped in setup, dpeuties say

PORT RICHEY — A man was arrested Sunday, deputies say, after he pulled a gun on a woman in a car and pistol whipped her, demanding medication in a setup.

The woman was in her car Thursday with a friend near the intersection of Regency Park Boulevard and Ridge Road when Joshua Velazquez, 33, jumped into the back seat, put a gun to her head and told her to hand over her medications, a Pasco Sheriff's report states. Then, he beat her in the head several times with the gun and with his fist. He got out of the car and came to the passenger side where he tried to yank her out.

When the woman yelled for help, the report states, Velazquez fled. But not before snatching medication from the car's glove box.

Deputies arrived and talked to Angelina Stefanski, who was also in the car with the victim. She described the setup.

The victim owed Stefanski money, she told deputies. Stefanski explained that Velazquez was only supposed to intimidate the victim, not rob her.

Velazquez, of Newark, N.J., was arrested Sunday on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon and failure to appear in court. He remained in the Land O'Lakes jail Monday in lieu of $150,513 bail.
