A woman was hospitalized early Friday after being shot at her Valrico home, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
The shooting was reported about 1:40 a.m. at 4816 Copper Canyon Blvd.
Brandon Regional Hospital later notified deputies that a woman with at least one gunshot wound had driven herself to the hospital.
The woman, identified as Carmen Denise Dean, 42, was shot while inside or near her car parked in the driveway of her home, deputies said.
She was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she was in serious but stable condition Friday, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon.
A motive is unclear, but deputies said the shooting was not random. Detectives processed the crime scene and will continue interviewing Dean's friends and family. Detectives also have interviewed her husband, Frederick Dean. He was cooperative and not considered a suspect Friday, McKinnon said.
Carmen Dean does not have a criminal record in Florida.
