Deputies: Stolen card charged $900 for bail
A woman used a stolen credit card to bail her husband out of jail, authorities say.
Mindi Rice, 28, charged $900 to a stranger's credit card in July to get her husband, David Rice, 29, out of the slammer after he was arrested on charges of grand theft, burglary of an occupied dwelling and possession of controlled substances, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Mrs. Rice, of 38930 New Dennison Lane, was arrested Wednesday. She is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and failing to appear in court on charges of petty theft. The Sheriff's Office also claims Mrs. Rice, whose husband is an electrician, used the card to buy $1,402.98 worth of electrical wire in July and August.
Capt. Jeff McDougal of the Zephyrhills Police Department couldn't say much about the victim or how Rice allegedly acquired the card because it's an active case. He did say Mrs. Rice might face additional charges as the investigation continues. A Sheriff's Office report states Mrs. Rice "admitted she used the victim's credit card to bond out her husband," but she said she had the victim's consent.
Mrs. Rice remained Thursday at the Pasco jail in lieu of $2,513 bail.
