Cyber investigation leads to child porn charges against Tampa man

TAMPA — Authorities arrested a 44-year-old man Tuesday and charged him with promotion of sexual performance by a child and possession of child pornography.

A tip from the Boynton Beach Police Department following an undercover investigation led a state cyber crime unit to Duncan J. Smith of Tampa, the Florida Attorney General's Office said.

Authorities seized six computers, 20 hard drives and thousands of compact discs from Smith's home for analysis, the office said. Some of the images already discovered depicted children as young as 2 years old.

He was charged with two counts of promotion of a sexual performance by a child and 20 counts of possession of child pornography. Deputies took Smith to the Hillsborough County Jail.
