TAMPA — A Riverview man who lied about being robbed at knifepoint has been charged with filing a false report.
In late August, Kyle Thomas Gallagher, 26, told deputies he was robbed by a black man in front of the Bayou Crossings Apartments in Riverview. He said the man stole his cellphone, driver's license and debit card.
During the followup investigation, detectives began checking Gallagher's phone records and discovered from the call logs and text messages that it appeared Gallagher was using his supposedly stolen cellphone.
Detective tried to contact Gallagher about his phone records, but he refused to cooperate, deputies say.
On Wednesday, detectives spotted Gallagher at a bus stop in Riverview and tried to question him. Once again, he refused to cooperate, they say, and deputies arrested him.
Afterward, deputies searching Gallagher found the driver's license he said had been stolen.
