Deputies try to identify body found floating in Hillsborough River State Park

TAMPA — Visitors to Hillsborough River State Park discovered the body of a woman floating in the Hillsborough River on Sunday.

The unidentified woman is described as 5-foot-2 and white. She had dark hair, possible shoulder length, with highlights. She had a pierced belly button, a gap in her front teeth and a surgery scar on the left leg from a femur repair, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

She also had a tattoo of what appears to be a nautical compass on her upper body.

The park visitors told the Sheriff's Office that they found a body under a clump of trees floating in the river around 10:15 a.m.

Sheriff divers recovered the body, which deputies said was partially decomposed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Frank Losat at (813) 247-8000.
