Detectives investigating death at Pinellas motel

LEALMAN — Pinellas Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 24-year-old Gulfport woman whose body was found Thursday afternoon at the La Quinta motel, 4999 34th St. N.

A sheriff's spokesman identified the dead woman as Destynee Nekole Burkes, of 5309 Jersey Ave S. Detectives were interviewing witnesses early Thursday evening and provided no other details.

Burkes, who attended Boca Ciega High School, was a debutante with the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in 2007 and secured a certified nursing license a few months later.

Attempts to reach her family Monday night were unsuccessful.
