TAMPA — Several downtown Tampa roads were closed about 10 a.m. Tuesday because of a crash involving a diesel truck.
Tampa police and Tampa Fire Rescue's hazardous materials team responded to the crash on Jefferson Street just north of E Jackson Street.
They say that at 9:47 a.m., a truck carrying diesel fuel and another vehicle collided in the intersection. Diesel began leaking from the truck's tank.
One person sustained minor injuries, according to Fire Rescue. The agency's hazardous material team worked to stop the leak. About 60 gallons were spilled, they say.
Jefferson is closed from Whiting Street to Kennedy Boulevard. Jackson Street is closed from Jefferson to Pierce streets. No downtown buildings were evacuated.
Police are urging drivers to avoid the area as Tampa Fire Rescue, Stepp's Environmental Response team and Tampa public works employees clean up.
