Fire consumes St. Pete home; three cats missing

ST. PETERSBURG — A fire consumed a home at 2241 32nd Ave. N Thursday afternoon. No one was injured in the blaze, which sent flames and smoke billowing from the home and appeared to destroy the structure.

The homeowner, Tony Binder, 60, said he had left just minutes before the fire was reported at 2:09 p.m. His wife was not home at the time. The couple has three cats that could not be located afterwards.

It took two dozen firefighters 20 minutes to get the fire under control. Binder said he had been negotiating to sell the property.
