LEALMAN — A 66-year-old man died Friday night when his townhouse caught fire, firefighters said.

The Lealman Special Fire Control District received calls about 9 p.m. about an explosion and fire at 7233 Parkside Villas Drive S. The man, whose identity was not released, was the only person in the home. Nobody else was injured.

It took about 60 firefighters roughly 30 minutes to squelch the flames, fire officials said.

The families on either side of the fire were displaced because their units suffered major smoke damage, firefighters said. They were being temporarily housed by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by Lealman fire district, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the state Fire Marshal.
