ST. PETERSBURG — An family of eight people were displaced from their home Monday after a fire started in their attic.
No one was home at 1782 19th St. S when fire trucks arrived at 2: 44 p.m., officials with St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said.
Smoke was pouring from the roof gables of the one-story, concrete-block house. Firefighters had to break in to the house to put out the blaze.
Damage was estimated at $20,000. Fire officials did not release a cause of the fire.
The American Red Cross was summoned to help the family of two adults and six children.
