Authorized fire east of Brooksville grows out of control

A Hernando County Fire Rescue firefighter works to contain a hot spot in a multi-acre brush fire Tuesday near Brooksville.

BROOKSVILLE — Firefighters are battling an authorized burn that has gotten out of control east of Brooksville.

The original 10-acre fire off Mondon Hill Road near Jasmine Drive reached about 30 acres shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Frank DeFrancesco.

Hernando County deputies have been asked to close Mondon Hill to traffic, and the state Division of Forestry has been asked to send tractors to help fight the growing blaze.

One person has been reported injured.
