North Tampa fire displaces residents of eight apartments

TAMPA — An early morning fire at a north Tampa apartment complex displaced the residents of eight units Friday, according to Hillsborough County fire officials.

No one was injured in the blaze, authorities said, which happened at the University Club Apartments, at 2206 Fitness Club Way, a few blocks west of the University of South Florida. Firefighters arrived to find flames on the roof of a two-story apartment building. They were able to contain the fire a short time later.

All pets from the building were accounted for and unharmed, officials said. The American Red Cross assisted the residents with temporary housing. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
