TAMPA -- A field fire briefly threatened a pair of mobile homes in East Tampa Tuesday afternoon before firefighters arrived and doused it, authorities said. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded around 3 p.m. to a large column of smoke behind 5000 56th St. They found a hilly area and mounds of roofing debris on fire behind the address, threatening a carport and vehicle on one side of the hill and at least two mobile homes on the other side, Fire Rescue said. No residents or firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
