PINELLAS PARK — Firefighters saved two cats and a dog from a house fire Monday.

The fire happened at a small white house, near 76th Terrace N and 35 Street N, at 11:10 a.m. Officials had not determined the cause of the fire by noon.

The owners were not home when the fire started, but their cats, Angel and Butterscotch, and dog, Minnie, were rescued by firefighters.

A man who said he was the son of the owners said the fire started near the kitchen and back porch. The man, who declined to give his name, did not think the house's damages were extensive, though he had not yet looked inside.

"It could have been a lot worse," he said.

By 11:40 a.m., the fire had been extinguished. A few residents from the neighboring Sunset Palms mobile home park lingered near the scene, watching firefighters as they rolled up hoses and drove away.

Pinellas Park District Chief Tim Barker said the fire is under investigation.

He did not suspect foul play.
