Dog dies in Tampa house fire

TAMPA — Heavy smoke at a house fire killed a small dog Thursday afternoon, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 1702 S Club Court just before 4 p.m. and contained the fire within 10 minutes.

While searching the home they found a dead dog. Tampa Fire Rescue said the homeowners have five dogs and that one was found in the back yard. The remaining three dogs were thought to have escaped the home through a doggy door.

Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by combustible materials too close to the stove. Investigators estimate damage to be about $10,000.
