ST. PETERSBURG — A large oak tree fell into a two-story apartment building early Saturday morning, displacing eight residents in two units but causing no injuries.
The tree at 730 Jackson St. N. was struck by lightning sometime last week, said St. Petersburg fire spokesman Lt. Joel Granata.
On Saturday, sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m., the tree toppled into the building. But the 911 call did not come in until 10:45 a.m., Granata said. The building was deemed unsafe and condemned. The Red Cross was expected to help the displaced residents, Granata said.
