Family escapes fire that destroys New Tampa home

A family is safe after an overnight fire destroyed a single-story home in New Tampa on Thursday, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

Crews, responding to 10265 Estuary Dr. around 1 a.m., found heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story residence, fire officials said.

The family of five, and a dog, escaped safely prior to the crews' arrival after smoke detectors alerted them of the blaze, fire officials said. There were no injuries and the fire was under control by 1:50 a.m., officials said.

Investigators say the fire originated from an undetermined source in teh garage, and cause and estimated $377,000 in damage.

The displaced family was taken in by friends in the neighborhood, officials said.
