A fire broke out in an abandoned house on 22nd Avenue S early Monday morning, temporarily slowing traffic in the area, authorities said.

The home at 967 22nd Ave. S was empty, St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue said, although a homeless man had slept on the front porch.

Around 7 a.m. a fire started near the front porch and spread to the eaves and attic. Two hours later, the fire was out and investigators were working to determine the cause. No one was hurt.

About $15,000 in damage was done.
