Crews from at least six fire departments battled a blaze Friday night at a recycling storage facility in Largo. Firefighters responded shortly after 6 p.m. to Angelo's Recycled Materials, 1755 Lake Avenue SE in an industrial area just north of Ulmerton Road.

The fire apparently started in a 20-foot pile of brush and construction debris, according to Largo district chief Keith Daliendo. The cause is under investigation, he said. No one was injured.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to douse flames shooting from a large storage building about three stories high. By 8 p.m., the fire was under control. As the fire raged, gusty winds carried heavy smoke south, enveloping traffic for a while on Ulmerton Road. Units from the city fire departments of Largo, Clearwater, Seminole, St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park, and the Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District responded to the blaze.
