I-75 southbound near Gibsonton re-opened after fire closure

GIBSONTON — A large brush fire near Gibsonton Drive caused the brief closure of southbound Interstate 75 Friday evening, authorities said.

The highway was closed after 5 p.m. just before the Gibsonton Drive exit, and re-opened about 5:30 p.m., according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. The Gibsonton Drive exit remained closed while the fire continued.

A few miles to the north in Palm River, fire rescue was also fighting a fire in a home that apparently contained fireworks. They went off in the blaze, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, delaying efforts to put out the fire at 3509 Libby Loop.
