Fire crews quell three-alarm blaze at Tarpon Springs restaurant

A three-alarm fire Tuesday evening destroyed 701 Tap House, a bar and restaurant at 701 Pinellas Ave. N in Tarpon Springs.

At least a half-dozen fire departments helped battled the blaze, said Deputy Chief Scott Young of Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue. The department got the 911 call about 6 p.m.

Firefighters cleared the building of occupants, then tried to make headway putting the fire out. The fire grew faster, however, and firefighters had to retreat outside for their own safety, Young said.

No one was hurt, but the Tap House was destroyed.

"It's pretty much a total loss," Young said. Crews were expected to remain at the site for most of the night.

A cause had not been determined.
